Yvonne Sylvain, the first Haitian woman to become a doctor, dies at eighty-two

Yvonne Sylvain died on 3 October 1989. Born in Port-au-Prince on 28 June 1907, she was the first woman admitted to the University of Haiti medical school and took her degree in 1940. She specialised in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Port-au-Prince General Hospital. She was also a suffragist.
