Whites torture Labadie

Haitian

On 26 November 1789 the whites entered the dwelling of a man named Labadie, a man of color of Aquin, gave him twenty-five gunshots, and tied him to the tail of a horse, which they sent off at a gallop along a stony road. The spirited animal stopped only at the habitation of its victim, 3 lieues from the town. Labadie’s family, after being insulted, tended this torn and bloody body, which escaped death miraculously. Labadie died a very long time after this event. Because of the wisdom and purity of his morals, Labadie was called the Venerable throughout his canton. The whites accused him of being an accomplice of Ferrand de Baudières, of Petit-Goâve.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Aquin.
