Ferrand de Bandières killed by colonists at Petit-Goâve
Haitian
On 19 November 1789 the virtuous Ferrand de Bandières, former seneschal, perished there, a victim of the colonists, for having drawn up a petition for the freedmen, by which they asked to enjoy political rights. No commemorative monument marks the place where this philanthropist fell. General Rigaud, commandant of the South, claimed from Toussaint Louverture the cession of Petit Goâve, Grand-Goâve and Léogane, which in 1799 formed part of the latter’s department. Toussaint used guile with him.
Rouzier tells this under the entry PETIT-GOAVE.
