Toussaint Louverture reaches Azua

Toussaint-Louverture, going to take possession of the Eastern part in 1801, left Saint-Jean and arrived at Azua on 12 January. He found the city in perfect tranquillity: he continued his march with prodigious rapidity, covering as many as 25 lieues a day.
