Toussaint Louverture is embarked at the Gonaïves

Haitian

On 12 June 1802, the former governor was embarked at the Gonaïves on the ship the Créole. When he arrived on the shore, he refused to embark, saying that he was not used to the sea. The French carbineers who escorted him struck him brutally and forced him into the boat. At the Cap he was transferred to the ship the Héros, where he found his third son, Saint-Jean Louverture.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Gonaïves (les).
