Haitian
On 10 December 1948 the General Assembly proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Paris. The Haitian senator Émile Saint-Lôt served as rapporteur in the drafting process. Haiti had been a founding member of the United Nations since 1945 and joined UNESCO in 1946, and Saint-Lôt went on to be its first ambassador to the UN. The date is kept worldwide as Human Rights Day.
