Manno Charlemagne, who sang at power for forty years, dies in Miami Beach

Joseph Emmanuel Charlemagne, known as Manno, died on 10 December 2017 in a Miami Beach hospital where he was being treated for cancer. He was sixty-nine. He was Haiti’s best-known political folk singer, and the sharpness of his songs about Haitian politics kept him in exile for much of his life, often in South Florida. He served as mayor of Port-au-Prince in the 1990s.
