The Security Council extends MINUSTAH for another year

Haitian

On 15 October 2008 the United Nations Security Council voted unanimously to extend the mandate of MINUSTAH, its stabilisation mission in Haiti, to October 2009. The force numbered more than nine thousand military and civilian personnel. Bolivia sent two hundred troops on 31 October. That year Haiti was paying roughly a million dollars a week to service a debt of some 1.7 billion, and food and fuel prices had already brought down the government of Jacques-Édouard Alexis in April.
