The Minos enters the Anse-à-Galets to load mahogany

Haitian

The port of L’Anse-à-Galets was discovered, on the indication of a few fishermen, by Mr. Auguste Elie, concessionaire of La Gonâve under the government of President Geffrard. The first ship to put in there to take on a cargo of mahogany was a French ship called the Minos, Captain Gœnuller, of Nantes. It entered on 28 June 1868. The sketch of the plan for entering the port was drawn up by Mr. J. Lacouture, former deep-sea captain; it has been recognized as exact by the captains of all the ships that have gone, after the Minos, to load mahogany.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Gonâve (la).
