The first Kenyan police contingent lands at Port-au-Prince

On 25 June 2024 the first contingent of the Multinational Security Support Mission landed at Toussaint Louverture airport – Kenyan police officers, reported at around four hundred, led in by Kenya’s principal secretary for internal security and met by the command of the Haitian National Police. The deployment was requested by de facto prime minister Ariel Henry and authorised by UN Security Council Resolution 2699 of October 2023. It was the third time in thirty years that foreign troops or police had been put on Haitian soil. Their job was to help a national police force that could not hold the gangs. Within months the officers were complaining they had not been paid.
