The Conseil du Cap orders every Jesuit expelled from Saint-Domingue

A royal ordinance of 21 July 1763 was followed by the definitive ruling of the Conseil Supérieur du Cap-Français on 24 November, expelling every Jesuit from Saint-Domingue. They were accused of preaching to enslaved people and gathering them together, and of pushing couples to marry properly. Some were accused of favouring marronnage and of shielding the enslaved accused of poisoning. The mission had been in the north since 1704. Clement XIV suppressed the order worldwide ten years later.
