Abner Louima is born at Thomassin

Abner Louima was born at Thomassin on 24 November 1966 and trained as an electrical engineer. On the night of 9 August 1997, after an arrest outside a Brooklyn nightclub, New York police officers beat him and raped him with a broom handle. It took three major surgeries to repair the damage. Officer Justin Volpe was convicted in federal court and sentenced to thirty years. Louima later founded a foundation in his own name.
