Sylvio Cator dies, the jumper who gave Haiti its first world record

Sylvio Cator died in July 1952. In 1928 he took silver in the long jump at the Amsterdam Olympics, and later that year he jumped 7.93 metres in Paris — a world record, and the first ever held by a Haitian. He was also a footballer and served as mayor of Port-au-Prince. The national stadium carries his name, and every Haitian who has played there has played on his ground.
