Soulouque’s army reaches the Cajul plateau
Haitian
CAJUL. Habitation one lieue before las Matas. On 18 March 1849 the army of President Soulouque, marching against Santo Domingo, emerged onto the plateau of Cajul. It put to flight the Dominican outposts that covered the bourg of las Matas. The President of Haiti set up his headquarters there and organized his army so as to take this town, which took place after a sharp fight. The Dominicans broke camp, abandoning five bronze cannon, 1 howitzer of 6 inches, caissons, chests and munitions. Generals Bobo, Thomas Hector, Jeannot Jean François and Geffrard carried out, at the head of their columns, the taking possession of las Matas.
Rouzier tells this under the entry CAJUL.
