Skal Labissière born, pulled from the rubble to the NBA

Skal Labissière was born in Port-au-Prince on 18 March 1996. On 12 January 2010 the earthquake dropped his family’s house on him, his mother and his brother; the three of them lay pinned for about three hours and his legs went numb. Months later he moved to Memphis to live with a man who ran a foundation for foreign prospects. In June 2016 the Phoenix Suns took him 28th in the NBA draft and traded him to Sacramento, making him the highest-drafted Haitian since Samuel Dalembert in 2001. On 15 March 2017 he scored 32 points against Phoenix, the first rookie of his draft class to reach thirty.
