Fabienne Colas born, builder of Black film festivals abroad

Fabienne Colas was born in Port-au-Prince on 18 March 1979. She was modelling by sixteen and acting in Haitian film before she moved to Montreal. There she founded the Fabienne Colas Foundation, which now runs a string of Black and Haitian film festivals across Canada and in New York. Canada named her one of its Top 40 Under 40 in 2018 and made her a Member of the Order of Canada in December 2024. Haiti keeps losing its people; some of them build the screens that keep showing Haitian faces.
