Six Spanish warships anchor off Port-au-Prince with an ultimatum
Haitian
On Saturday 6 July 1861, at noon, six Spanish warships came to anchor in the roadstead of Port-au-Prince. Commander Escalante came ashore with an ultimatum demanding of the government a salute of 21 cannon shots in reparation for insults done to the Spanish flag, and an indemnity of $200,000 for depredation committed on the eastern frontiers by the Dominican General Cabral.
Rouzier tells this under the entry PORT-AU PRINCE [le].
