American pirate Pelletier enters Fort-Liberté with the William
Haitian
The famous American pirate Pelletier, who tried to commit acts of piracy on the coasts of Haiti, and who was for this tried and condemned by the Haitian courts, had entered Fort-Liberté on 5 April 1861 under the French flag with his ship the William, supposedly putting in under duress, but in reality to carry off Haitians and go and sell them into slavery. He was denounced by one of his sailors. His ship was confiscated.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Fort-Liberté.
