Guillaumette attempts to seize the arsenal of Gonaives

The brave Guillaumette, who on 6 November 1861 had attempted to seize the arsenal of the Gonaives at 10 o’clock in the evening, was arrested at St. Michel du Nord, in this section rurale, at the end of the same month. Following his arrest, Eugène Latortue, Zamor the elder, Victor Duvoisier, and other persons implicated in this affair were also arrested. General Aimé Legros, Secretary of State for the Interior, whose brother Léon was implicated in this affair, was dismissed from his functions.
