Rigaud nearly annihilates the British garrison at Tiburon

The British had invaded Saint-Domingue in 1793 at the invitation of French planters who preferred King George to the Republic and to emancipation. Andre Rigaud, commanding for the Republic in the South, beat them at Leogane in early December 1794. Three days later he threw two thousand men at the British in Port-au-Prince and was badly repulsed. He regrouped. On 26 December 1794 he struck Tiburon and all but wiped out the garrison there.
