President Boyer enters Saint-Marc
On Monday 2 October 1720 the garrison of St. Marc, then composed of the 8th demi-brigade, two squadrons and a company of artillery, shook off the tyrannical oppression of Christophe. The marshal de camp Jean Claude, who had wished to repress this surge toward freedom, paid for his boldness with his head. Verrettes and the whole department of the Artibonite followed the movement. On 16 October 1820 President Boyer made his entry there. However, in February 1821, Colonel Paulin raised the standard of revolt; but, abandoned by the 8th regiment, which he was trying to lead astray, he was arrested and carried mortally wounded to the hospital. General Bonnet reestablished order there in the name of the republic. The principal instigator of this conspiracy was General Jean Pierre Richard, who was arrested at the Cap by General Magny on 2 February and dispatched to Port-au-Prince, where he was tried and shot.
Rouzier tells this under the entry ST.-MARC.
