Port of Miragoâne closed
Haitian
The port, one of the finest of Haiti, has been open to foreign commerce since 21 April 1807, and receives on average per year 50 sailing ships that take on cargo there, and few or no steamers. It offers a safe haven to the largest ships. Its waters are calm and deep. It was closed on 17 December 1808, on 25 April 1826, on 27 September 1836, on 2 October 1849. Reopened on 20 September 1831 and in 1844, and in 1860. At the entrance emerges a shady and cool islet, la Frégate, which serves as a goal for a promenade on Sundays; this islet has 2 large branching trees.
Rouzier tells this under the entry MIRAGOANE.
