Poet Raymond Chassagne is born

Haitian

Raymond Chassagne was born on 13 February 1924. He was an officer in the Haitian army before Duvalier jailed him and drove him out. He went to the United States and then to Canada, and took a doctorate in letters in Quebec with a thesis on Édouard Glissant. His best-known book is Éloge du paladin.
