Poet and publisher Rodney Saint-Éloi is born at Cavaillon

Rodney Saint-Éloi was born at Cavaillon on 27 August 1963. A poet, essayist and editor, he founded the Montreal publishing house Mémoire d’encrier, which has done as much as any institution to put Haitian and Indigenous writing into French-language print. He has twice been nominated for the Governor General’s Award for French-language poetry, including in 2013 for the book he wrote to his murdered friend Jacques Roche.
