Philippe Thoby-Marcelin, co-author of Canapé-Vert, dies in exile

Philippe Thoby-Marcelin died on 13 August 1975 at his home in Cazenovia, near Syracuse in New York State. Born in Port-au-Prince on 11 December 1904, he helped found La Revue Indigène in 1927 with Jacques Roumain, Carl Brouard and Émile Roumer. With his brother Pierre Marcelin he wrote Canapé-Vert and La Bête de Musseau. He left Haiti in 1948, after Estimé banned the Popular Socialist Party, and never lived there again.
