Pétion’s and Christophe’s armies collide at Couyau as Haiti splits in two
Haitian
Pétion’s western army, marching on Saint-Marc, met Christophe’s northern troops on the Couyau plantation on 7 September 1808. Christophe’s men were scattered. By then the split between North and West was a fact on the ground, whatever either man called himself. Pétion went on to besiege Saint-Marc from 24 October into the middle of November.
