Painter Max Pinchinat is found dead in his Paris apartment
Haitian
Max Pinchinat was found dead on 7 November 1985 at his home in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. Born in Port-au-Prince on 24 June 1925, he joined the Centre d’Art in 1947 and then broke with it to co-found the Foyer des arts plastiques. He argued fiercely in Le Nouvelliste and Conjonction against confining Haitian art to the label of naïf. Présence africaine published his Propos sur la peinture haïtienne in 1958.
