Georges Corvington is born, and will spend forty years writing one city

Haitian

Georges Corvington was born in Port-au-Prince on 6 November 1926, son of a lawyer. He trained in law but turned to urban geography instead of practising. His Port-au-Prince au cours des ans ran to eight volumes, published between 1970 and 2009. He was named a living national treasure in 2009 and led the Société d’Histoire, de Géographie et de Géologie d’Haïti. The earthquake of 12 January 2010 buried him for hours; he survived, but lost his library. He died on 3 April 2013.
