Odette Roy Fombrun is born, and will spend a century arguing for konbitism

Odette Roy Fombrun was born in Port-au-Prince on 13 June 1917, one of eleven children delivered by the same midwife. She was a writer and an educator, and she spent her long life pressing the idea she called konbitism — that Haitians should build through collective labour rather than wait to be rescued. Haiti named her a National Living Treasure in 2009. She lived to a hundred and five.
