Gary Victor was born in Port-au-Prince on 9 July 1958. He writes novels and plays and has written for radio and television; his sketches and series about bourgeois manners caused public rows. He was General Secretary of the Haitian Senate from 1996 to 2000. He won the Prix RFO du livre in 2004 and the Casa de las Américas Prize in 2012.
