Northerners rout Anselme Prophète at Le Trou
Haitian
Shortly afterward, on 11 April, the Northerners, well supplied with arms, came to the charge and overthrew Anselme Prophète, who did not stop until Port-au-Prince; the town had time to be pillaged and burned. General Turenne Jean-Gilles, commander of the Northerners, distinguished himself in this affair by dispatching to Trou a column of volunteers against the Legitimists, saying to them: “My children, I have nothing to hide from you, I am not sending you to lie down on roses, I am sending you to fight. In parting from you, I make a great sacrifice; but it must be. I have nothing to give you, but I give you my blessing.” These young men left and conducted themselves admirably.
Rouzier tells this under the entry TROU (le).
