Natives under Lamour Dérance rise in the hills of Jacmel

Haitian

After the deportation of Toussaint Louverture, in December of the same year, the indigènes, having at their head Lamour Dérance, rose in insurrection, as throughout the colony, in the mornes of Jacmel. Dieudonné Jambon, who commanded this town, fell into an ambush on the habitation St.-Cyr. From then on the insurrection became general; Magloire Ambroise, Lacroix and Macaque, at the head of the insurgents, advanced on 10 December, 3000 strong, armed with pikes and muskets, to assail the town. Dieudonné Jambon, colonel, aided by the battalion chiefs Burres and Pascal, at the head of 200 men of European troops and 150 of indigène troops, succeeded in driving them back. Soon afterward Rochambeau and Pageot were able to penetrate from Léogâne into the midst of the insurgents and to cross the mornes of Jacmel, where they entered as liberators. Pageot resumed command of the arrondissement.

Rouzier tells this under the entry JACMEL.
