Ministers Roy and Bellegarde visit the Davis enterprises

Haitian

This village rests on hills dotted with woods and meadows where horses and oxen graze and where the mockingbird is heard from the depths of the groves; it is situated on a plateau raised 1,200 feet above sea level in an extremely rich region, a veritable crossroads placed at the intersection of the roads leading to the Dominican frontier by Maïssade and Hinche; to the Cap-Haitien by Plaisance or St. Raphaël; to Gonaives by Ennery; to Saint Marc by the Petite Rivière de l’Artibonite. Pure air, healthy climate, cool temperature, cold even in winter. Regular rains. The dry season lasts 5 months, from November to April; the rainy season runs from May to October. It is at Saint Michel de l’Atalaye that the American engineer H. P. Davis founded his principal agricultural enterprises in 1918, and that the Ministers Louis Roy, of Public Works, and Dantès Bellegarde, of Public Instruction, visited in March 1919.

Rouzier tells this under the entry SAINT MICHEL DE L’ATALAYE.
