Mimerose Beaubrun of Boukman Eksperyans is born at Ouanaminthe

Mimerose Pierre was born at Ouanaminthe on 13 November 1956. She took a diploma in social and cultural anthropology at the Universite d’Etat d’Haiti, then went and did the fieldwork with her voice. She is a founding member and lead singer of Boukman Eksperyans, the band that put Vodou drums and lyrics into the middle of Carnival and got songs banned for it. She married Theodore Beaubrun, another founder. Her book Nan Domi records years spent inside Vodou initiation as a participant, not a visitor.
