A military court sentences Jacques Roumain to three years in prison
Haitian
Jacques Roumain founded the Parti Communiste Haitien in 1934, the year the marines finally left. President Stenio Vincent’s government charged him with plotting against the state. A military court tried him over three days, 15 to 17 October, and on 23 October 1934 sentenced him to three years. He caught malaria in prison and never fully recovered from it. He died in 1944 at thirty-seven, leaving Gouverneurs de la rosee behind him.
