Michel Hector dies, and Haitian higher education loses its model

Michel Hector died on 5 July 2019. He was an emeritus professor of history at the Université d’État d’Haïti and, by common account, the model of what a Haitian researcher and teacher could be — exile, return, and four decades of putting the country’s own history into the hands of its own students.
