Historian Michel Hector is born at Cap-Haïtien

Michel Auguste Hector was born at Cap-Haïtien on 20 November 1932. He studied there and in Port-au-Prince, then at the École normale supérieure. The Duvaliers forced him into exile and he taught history in North America before returning to the Université d’État d’Haïti, where a generation of Haitian historians learned their trade from him.
