Maurice Cadet, the Bleuet of Haiti, dies in Jacmel

Maurice Cadet was born in Jacmel on 20 June 1933. He left for Québec and settled in Alma, in the Lac-Saint-Jean country, in 1967, which is how he came to be called the Bleuet d’Haïti. Poet, short-story writer and essayist, he published collections including Ondes vagabondes, and he belonged to the PEN Club of Montreal and the Union des écrivains québécois. He went home to Jacmel, and there he died on 29 May 2020 after weeks of fever and serious breathing trouble.
