L’Etoile. Haitian post taken by the Dominicans.

The Haitians, in very small numbers, occupied three posts beyond Las-Cahobas, of which the two most important were the Cachiman and l’Etoile. The frontier line was under the orders of the general of division Saint-Victor Poil, who expected no offensive movement on the part of the enemy. The Dominicans set themselves in motion on Sunday, 17 June, toward seven o’clock in the morning, marching in silence in three columns. When they were within reach of the Cachiman, of l’Etoile and of the third post, it being nearly ten o’clock, they assail ours vigorously at an agreed signal. The Haitians, though surprised, defended themselves with resolution, and abandoned the three posts only after exhausting all their munitions; they numbered barely three hundred men. They fell back on Las-Cahobas in very good order, though having suffered appreciable losses.
