At Port-au-Prince there was still talk of a Riviériste conspiracy, and already there were many prisoners; a good number of individuals, even men known never to have been Riviéristes, were threatened with arrest, denounced by their personal enemies; spying was the order of the day, and many evildoers gave free rein to their wicked passions.
