The troops and the generals then went to the church, where a De profundis was sung for the late President, and a Te Deum for President Pierrot. On 25 April two aides-de-camp arrived at Le Cap bearing to the Council of State dispatches from President Pierrot, announcing that he accepted the first magistracy of the State and that he called upon the support of all citizens to help him fulfil the duties of that office. He made it known that he was leaving for Saint-Marc, where he would have the funeral of Guerrier celebrated, and that from Saint-Marc he would go on to Port-au-Prince.
