Port-au-Prince. The Council of State names Pierrot President and the forts fire the mourning gun.

As soon as the news of the death of Guerrier, grievous to the whole country, reached Port-au-Prince, the secretary of state for the Interior officially informed the Council of State, which met at once on 16 April and unanimously named general Pierrot President of the Republic of Haiti. A salute of 17 guns announced this event to the Capital, and all the forts of the town fired the mourning gun.
