Les Cayes. A National Lycée is founded there under Jules Bance.

Citizen Féry proposed to his colleagues the re-establishment of the Tribunals of Commerce; and, striving always to spread public instruction, he induced the Government to found, by an order of 8 February 1845, a National Lycée at Les Cayes, and to entrust its direction to citizen Jules Bance. On the same day, owing to the persevering care of the secretary of state for the Interior, the letter post began to operate. For several weeks there had been talk under the breath of the replacement of Mr Honoré Féry by Mr Beaubrun Ardouin in the office of secretary of state for Justice, Public Instruction and Worship. The public instinct felt that citizens Féry and Laudun, old revolutionaries of 1843, could not remain in power any longer when the Boyériste influence prevailed around President Guerrier, through MM. Beaubrun Ardouin and Paul.
