For his part, general Rivière Hérard appeared before Azua on 19 March; his troops were composed of the infantry and cavalry of the former guard of Boyer, which had become his own, of the 2nd, 6th, 9th and 19th regiments, of the national guards of the Verrettes, L’Arcahaie and the Mirebalais, and of the cavalry of the national guard of Port-au-Prince.
