29. The Island of Haiti (formerly called Saint-Domingue), with the adjacent islands that depend on it, forms the territory of the Republic of Haiti. 30. The territory of the Republic is divided into 4 departments, namely: the departments of the South, the West, the Artibonite and the North. The other departments shall be designated by the Senate, which shall fix their limits.
