Rigaud then resolved to attack Tiburon. Before reaching the town he had to carry an advanced post called Moisson, held by 500 Englishmen. During the night of 24 to 25 December he ordered five strong and fearless young Black men to carry off the English sentries. These young men, slipping through the grass, came near enough to the European soldiers to stab them before they had time to discharge their weapons. Rigaud, advancing at the double at the head of 6,000 men, surprised the enemy camp and put almost the whole English battalion to the sword.
