Trutier. Battle between Rigaud and the English.

Five weeks after the taking of Léogane the English came to attack the outposts of the Republican army on the highroad to Port-Républicain. General Rigaud marched to meet them with his whole army and gave them battle on the Trutier plantation. The Republicans threw themselves on the English with the bayonet and overthrew them. But reinforcements and several field pieces coming out of Bizoton reached Trutier and restored the fight. The English artillery, well served, dismounted a four-pounder the Republicans had; and Rigaud, raked by grapeshot, retreated, though in good order, as far as Léogane (5 December 1794). The English counted 40 men killed and fifty wounded; among the latter were three officers, Grant, Clunes and Hamilton.
