Lysius Salomon dies in Paris exile two months after losing power

Louis Etienne Felicite Lysius Salomon was born at Les Cayes on 30 June 1815 and ruled Haiti from 1879 to 1888. He founded the National Bank, opened the first postal system, and handed out state land to farmers. He also opened the door to foreign land ownership, which later cost the country dearly. An insurrection led by General Seide Thelemaque drove him out on 10 August 1888. He fled to France and died there on 19 October 1888.
