Looting after Nord Alexis embarks; Poitevien drives out the pillagers

Haitian

Port-au-Prince: On 2 December 1908, after the embarkation of General Nord Alexis, President of the Republic, some commercial houses were pillaged during the night by the sovereign people. The sovereign people, according to certain witnesses, was composed of the rabble, of soldiers and of policemen. General Poitevien, at the head of a battalion of grenadiers, drove off the looters and killed a few of them. It was declared that at the fall of each Government, the sovereign people committed acts of brigandage at Port-au-Prince. Those who took part in them were armed with rifles. And they pillaged until the establishment of a new Government.

Rouzier tells this under the entry PORT-AU-PRINCE.
