Lazarre’s popular army defeated Boyer’s army under Solage; Cazeau died

Haitian

On 25 February 1843 the popular army, commanded by General Lazarre, met there that of President Boyer, commanded by General Solage. Lazarre succeeded in cutting off the enemy’s retreat by seizing the Débarras crossroads. There was talk in the government camp of coming to terms with the revolution, when suddenly General Lazarre charged at the double and overthrew it. The government soldiers fled on all sides, leaving dead, wounded and arms. The fight had been terrible and had lasted until night. General Cazeau lost his life there. General Lazarre camped on the battlefield, where 600 men of the government army came to join him the next day.

Rouzier tells this under the entry NUMERO 2 [le].
